Hi, My Name’s Dave and I’m Addicted to Addons
by David Perry on Jan.27, 2010, under All Addons, General Addons
“Hi, Dave” the crowd in [2. Trade] mournfully replies.
So I recently purchased a new computer – one finally decent enough to play WoW with all settings maxed and get FRAPS footage at maximum resolution without any significant lag. As a test of this new-found ability I recorded a simple review of one of my favorite new addons, OPie, and posted it to YouTube. Within the first 24 hours it had been viewed 50+ times and even netted me a few subscribers. Now this may not be big by Chocolate Rain standards, but as a web developer who just dropped content onto the web and did nothing to promote it, I have to recognize that those are impressive numbers. I decided that I would make this my new hobby (since I’d been looking for one anyway) and begin profiling all of my favorite addons and trying out a bunch of new ones.
I’m hoping to manage a release schedule of about 1 video per week, though I guarantee you there will sometimes be more, sometimes less. I am currently a full-time student and hold down a full-time job, which tends to cut into my video editing time. In any case, I now present to you without further ado the video that started it all (video after the break):
OPie can be downloaded from Curse at http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/opie.aspx

I’m a bit under the weather right now, but I seem to be on the tail end of whatever crud has infested my lungs. I expect to have my voice back some time this weekend so look forward to more videos soon

Hey, great blog. I was watching this video and I use an addon that does the random mount thing, as well as summon non-combat pets. It is called Livestock. I love it. A single button that will summon a mount. It is not on an action bar, and you can set it to ignore non-epic mounts, You can tell it not never show “this” mount, etc. You can have a button for your non-combat pets too, or if you are like me, you can set it to always summon a random pet is one is not out. I love it!

@Orcrind: I’ll have to look into that one. Now that I’ve moved that stuff pretty exclusively into OPie, any idea if Livestock can be activated via slash commands so I can just change my existing macros?
Edit: Does not appear to accept slash commands, rather it uses its own buttons. For many people this might be OK but I have so many addons at this point that I need addons that play nicely with each other
